FIND OUT ABOUT CHANGES TO THE MALL IN WALTHAMSTOW
A £200 million redevelopment of The Mall was given planning permission in 2018, and will provide new shops and restaurants, create 350 new jobs, and deliver much-needed new homes for Walthamstow.
Since the redevelopment was approved, Capital & Regional, the owner of the The Mall, has been working with Waltham Forest Council and Transport for London (TfL) to find ways it could be changed to provide even more benefits.
In October last year a public consultation took place to gather the views of residents and this has informed the planning applications that Capital & Regional, with the support of Tfl, has now submitted to Waltham Forest Council. These planning applications propose changes to the approved development that will:
Facilitate a potential new step-free entrance to Walthamstow Central underground station at the entrance to The Mall
Provide a new and improved children's play area
Retain the avenue of lime trees in the Town Square. Across the entire development, the number of trees will be increased
Move the residential towers back from the Town Square
Create a more active street scene on Selborne Road
With high streets across the country facing unprecedented challenges, the need to invest in the Town Centre, create jobs and build homes is now greater than ever.
If these applications are approved, work on site is anticipated to start next year.
